Many project management
paradigms require specifications as part of the design cycle
Shrinking budgets
and resources require the final product to be arrived at in
the minimum number of steps - this requires a specification
that has pared down the project's paths to those with the greatest
chance for success
Outsourcing is nearly
impossible without a well-defined specification
A well-defined specification
augments vendor contracting and clearly defines the deliverables
expected
If time isn't spent
on a good specification up front, it is highly likely that more
time will be spent in scope creep and project revision than
would have been spent in spec development.
